Hi everyone,
The most popular question I receive is how to be stylish and look great when you don’t have a lot of money. I don’t believe that money equals style. Your style can happen no matter your income level, it just may take a bit more time or a bit more effort and creativity. Here’s some of my tried and true tips to be stylish and look great, no matter your budget.
- Hair style: Get the right hairstyle that fits your face shape. sleek up-dos and tied hair can make you look refined.
- Have a structured bag:We might have mentioned it before, but having a structured bag is essential to looking chic and elegant. The best part about structured bags is that it retains a defined shape regardless of how much stuff is in it.
- Be Smart with accessories: Nothing will make you more polished, classy and elegant than a pair of diamond studs, an elegant watch and a pair of tasteful sunglasses. Smart accessorizing will take any boring outfit to another level of class and sophistication.
- Wear pointed toe heels or flats: Pointed toe heels have an elegant shape that adds a show-stopping element to any outfit. They may not be the most comfortable pair, but even flats look a hundred times more classy than regular rounded flats.
- Make sure your clothes fits you well: This is just a kind reminder as we discussed about this many many times
- Add a blazer: Add a blazer to a dress, blouse, or even a T-shirt and feel the difference. You’ll instantly feel more powerful and better dressed.
- Keep things neutral: By this, we mean to buy more clothing items and shoes in neutral colors. This includes beige, camel, brown, and nude colors. These look classy, elegant, and high-maintenance. In addition, darker colors like navy blue are a good option.
- Smell good: One of the basics for looking and feeling classy is to have a signature scent. It needs to be mild, refreshing, and subtle. The right fragrance leaves a lasting impression on people who are around you.
- Buy solids: A solid black dress will look more expensive than a floral. A solid blue top will be more classic than a plaid. Prints can look dated quickly. Prints can fade if not done well. Lower-priced garments often try to replicate runway prints = fake. Also, lower-priced prints aren’t as likely to be matched up, making the cheaper fabrication far more obvious.
- Don’t buy fake: don’t buy bags from lower-end designers that are trying desperately to look like another. No monogrammed fabric, no padlocks, no trends replicated right off the runway. This also goes for shoes and accessories.
- Shop for need not for want: Don’t buy just to buy, don’t buy to feel better. Buy to fill wardrobe holes and to look better today and a year from today.
- Quality over quantity: Period just because I write about this on the blog all the time.
