Hi everyone,
It’s been a month since I am in quarantine. In the beginning I was very positive (still) but I didn’t expect it to be so hard. Quarantining yourself at home can play an important role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases but this doesn’t mean that coping with the disruption in your normal routine is easy. In addition to the uncertainty and stress of the global outbreak, spending time confined in your home can take a serious mental toll. Other than eating healthy and taking your vitamins to protect yourself against that pandemic, we must also protect our mental health during this home confinement. Today I am sharing 6 things that you can do to cope with quarantine.
1- Establish a routine: Try to create a routine that works for you (other than stay in your bed all day or in your PJ all day). I work from home with 3 kids around. So I try to keep everyone occupied while I am busy taking care of business, cooking, blogging etc. Between the hubby and the kids, cooking, the blog, my consultancy services, my IG live videos, talking with friends and family over the phone or video chatting, my day is full. Sometimes, I feel I need a few additional hours before going to bed to find time to do everything. I think subconsciously I am overdoing it just to stay sane (trying to fix it).
2- Stay Active: You don’t need a bunch of equipment to workout at home. Find what type of exercise is right for you. There is plenty of resources available : Exercise videos on YouTube, Body weight exercises, Online workouts, Fitness apps…. You can do as little as 10 min per day and it would make a difference. Bottom line: Stay active and hydrated.
3- Avoid Frustration and boredom: Waking up every morning, staying in your PJ or in your bed all day will lead to boredom and frustrations. So make a plan, list some things you’d like to accomplish, and then start checking a few things off your list each day.
4- Be Kind and Help Others when possible: This may seem odd but in the middle of all these uncertainties, helping a friend or a family member may provide a sense of control and empowerment. Do help in any way you can while taking all the necessary safety guidance into account. Don’t forget to be kind and considerate. In moment like this, any act of kindness will be greatly appreciated.
5- Stay connected: While you are practicing physical distancing to avoid the spread of the virus, keep in touch with your family, friends and coworkers through social media, video chat, phone calls, online gaming… This will help keep you sane.
6- Practice TLC (my new rule): Take time off for yourself: take long bath with a glass of wine. Treat your skin, body, and soul (through meditation). It is definitely the right time to take good care of yourself. You can also declutter and put some order in your closet 🙂 or whatever keeps you stress free and makes you happy.
