The Wear of mini / short skirts after 35

August 5, 2021 by Moumous |

Hi everyone,

Happy Thursday! Today I have a very fun topic to chat about: Until what age I could wear a mini (short) skirt? I got this question a lot for skirts and shorts. Although, I addressed this topic last year (post available here). I feel that there is something more I could say to offer you more clarity on the topic and boost your confidence just a little more when it comes to wearing a short skirt. Survey says that women should stop wearing mini / short skirts once they pass 35. I, myself have a different opinion. So, hear me out.

I’m all about self-love, body confidence and mostly I am an advocate for women to dress for their body shape.

There is nothing more aging than a long skirt on women of a certain age. You can get away with lovely white hair and lots of wrinkles, but long skirts are the precursor to the shroud.

Girls in their 20s and 30s can waft around looking charmingly like the girl in the Timotei advert, hippy-dippy in mid-calf or long skirts. But this same length can make most women a decade or two later in life look older than our chronological age. We do not want to embrace our inner grandmother.

There is, however, an important difference between short and mini; it is one that older women need to discover fast if they do not want to walk around to the sound of bleating mutton. A short skirt can be perhaps four inches above the knee, but not a millimeter shorter. The hemline should fall in the middle of that bit of the leg that is still thin before becoming thigh.

For every year over 50, the length should perhaps come down a tiny bit. But if you are slim and petite you can follow my usual tips ensuring that the length of your skirt comes right after the tip of your middle finger when lay flat next to your body.

And remember to feel really confident showing off your legs, you need to take care of your skin, your nutrition, and stay active. This is the only way that you can look ageless at any age. Don’t forget to drink your water and take your vitamins.

So I would love to hear your thoughts. How confident are you to wear a pair of shorts or short skirts? Comment below and let me know.

Thanks for stopping by.

Such a cute mini skirt! I hope I'm still wearing short skirts when I'm over 35! 🙂

I love my skirts whether they are long or short: as long as they fit well and they are not overly too short, I think they can be classy at any age. Love this outfit as it is easy to recreate. The print of that skirt is really pretty too.

Cute skirt and outfit, Moumous! I really like the addition of high heels with a shorter skirt for that wonderful elongating of the legs! I also enjoy any length of skirt but I do love my mini skirts most because my legs are my best feature! And I have no problem at 47 years old showing off all of my leg straight up to the very top of my thighs! You are right, whatever styles makes us feel comfortable and fabulous we should be able to wear them at any age!

Styling is a calling that humbles you. Moments lik Styling is a calling that humbles you. Moments like this, kneeling on the floor, adjusting the delicate strap of a sandal, remind me that elegance isn’t just built in front of mirrors, but in the quiet details no one always sees.

Having the privilege to style fashion designer Stella Jean @stellajean_sj_ during her visit to Haiti @haifex.ht was more than work; it was a reminder of why I do what I do. It’s about service, attention, and the joy of seeing someone step into a look that makes them feel like their best self. The reward?
