Hi everyone,
Happy Thursday! As we’re saying goodbye to 2021 this week, it’s important to think about how you’re going to make 2022 a better year. 2022 is going to be big for all of us, but are you ready to make the most of out it and make it YOUR year? Today’s blog post is all about the different steps you need to take to prepare yourself for a successful New Year. Before we get started, I want to talk about the difference between smart goals and the right goals. As it’s definitely the time to talk about goals and objectives and that one goal is more most likely to be achieved if they are S.M.A.R.T. However, If you set the wrong goals, you will get sidetracked even if they are S.M.A.R.T.
The right goals line up with where you want to go. When your goals are connected to a larger purpose, you see why they are important and it helps you answer the question: “What’s next?” once they are achieved. When you see a clear line of sight between your goals and your personal vision, it’s easier to stay motivated. If you choose a goal because you think it’s something that you should do, it will be difficult to stay motivated. This is why so many diet plans fail. When you are clear about where you are going, your goals become the means to get there. Now, with that being said, here are 10 different things that you should as we are getting ready for a new year.
1. REVIEW YOUR YEAR
What better way to prepare for the future than to reflect on the past? It’s important to review your year to see what worked out and what didn’t. What you did wrong and also what you did right. Think about your accomplishments in 2021, do you feel happy or do you think there are things that you need to work on? Think about all of this, including your emotions regarding each question. This will help you make the right decisions and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
2. MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
The best and most effective way to have an amazing year is to plan it. What do you want to achieve this new year? What are you going to do to achieve them? Take the time to think about this and write down your list of goals and give yourself a deadline. For a period of 12 months, the maximum of goals you can have is 5. Define them before the year begins. This will help you stay motivated and focus on your New Year’s resolutions.
3. HAVE A GOAL-SETTING REVIEW
Setting goals is important but it’s also essential to review them. While doing so, you’ll ask yourself the question mentioned above: “Are those goals the right ones for me?”. This will help you cross out goals that are irrelevant, not important, or not realistic. Don’t waste your time on writing multiple goals, focus on the right ones.
4. CREATE A VISION BOARD
You might ask yourself “what is a vision board?”. Merriam-Wester defines a vision board as a collage of clippings, pictures, fabric, memos, quotes, notes, and more as a way of visualizing one’s future goals. It is simply a fun way to focus on achieving your goal. You can see it as a DIY art project. Find images related to the goals you have set and put them together in a frame or a bristol board. Place it somewhere you can see it every day. There are also online alternatives for the lazy ones (just kidding).
5. MAKE A BUCKET LIST
Bucket lists are also a fun but more detailed way to set goals. Write down somewhere everything you want to do during this year on a checklist and make sure to put a checkmark or to cross out each goal when you achieve them. Are there some places that you want to visit? Some fun adventures that you want to partake in? Your bucket list can be as long as you want it to. Be inspired!
6. ADD ACCOUNTABILITY
No matter how motivated you are in achieving your goals, trust me you might get tired and find yourself unable to keep up. That’s why it’s important to add accountability. Adding accountability is just a fancy way to say that you need to choose someone with whom you can share your goals with, that you have regular conversations with about your progress and that can also call you out when you’re being lazy.
7. DETOX YOUR LIFE
Clean your life and also your home. Remove all the unnecessary items and bad vibes around you. Don’t bring with you toxic people that had a negative impact on your year. While reading this I know you might be thinking of something or someone specific, yes let them go!! Enter the new year with a fresh mental state and a clean home.
8. GET ORGANIZED
You will not achieve your goals if you aren’t organized. Don’t be all over the place and don’t have your stuff all over the place. Take some time to look around your bedroom, your office, your kitchen, every place that belongs to you to put everything in order. Trust me you will feel better afterward.
9. REVIEW YOUR FINANCES
Don’t let money be a factor that stops you from reaching your goals. Always look at your finances to cut down unnecessary spendings and focus more on savings. Budgeting is an effective way to keep track of your finances.
10. MAKE A WELLNESS PLAN
Do you have a healthy lifestyle? Health is more important than anything we just discussed above. If you’re not healthy, how will you be able to achieve your goals and cross out things on your bucket list? Being healthy is not only about physical health but also about mental wellbeing. Prioritize your health so you can be more energetic and motivated.
And….remember, baby-steps! If all 10 of these steps seem like to much to take on, that’s ok! Start with one or two…even that will make a difference. So what are your goals for 2021. Comment below and let me know.
