The Ultimate 10 Golden Rules for Shopping

When shopping in person, you can try clothes on, see how they fit and feel the materials and craftsmanship of each piece. Another benefit of shopping in person is the option to ask questions; don’t be afraid to talk to sales associates, who can offer a wealth of information about different clothing styles. There are several types of stores to choose from, and your shopping experience will be different depending on where you go. With that said, I did a similar post in the past addressing how you should decide if you buy or pass but I omitted my ultimate golden rules that you need to know before you hit the road.

1- Take plenty of time for shopping

Rush, stress, and pressure may lead you to buy the wrong things. This can also happen when you shop out of frustration.

2- Sizes are not important

You are not a number, after all. Size designations vary widely depending on the manufacturer. A body shape analysis will give you plenty of insights on not only how to show your best self to the world on a daily but also a better understanding of size. You can also book a session with me here.

3-Take time to get an optimal fit, because a good fit equals a good effect.

You should feel comfortable in your cloth. Therefore, only buy clothes that flatter your figures. That means there should be no folds forming because your clothes are either too tight or too loose. Pockets or pleats should not pull apart: the fabric doesn’t bunch up when you walk; underwear does not show through. Look at yourself from all sides. Move about in the garment. Walk sit and stretch and observe whether the clothes are still comfortable, don’t pinch and don’t scratch.

4- Quality beats quantity

When shopping pays attention to these details: turn the items inside out and check how neat the seams look. Do patterns (stripes, e.g.) continue without deviation past the pocket. How do the buttonholes and buttons look, and how are buttons sown on? All buttons and zippers should be easy to open and close

5- Shop smartly

Determine ahead of time what you intend to buy, but stay open to new ideas anyway. The items you plan to purchase should go with at least 3 items already in your wardrobe.

6- Mixing is the thing

If your basic wardrobe is of high quality you will enjoy it for a long time. Individual items, such as a top under a blazer can then be a bargain.

7- Don’t fall into the bargain trap

Even the greatest bargain is too expensive if it is just hanging in your closet.

8- Match your clothes to your daily routine and your needs

Is linen outfit useful, for example, if you drive a car all day? The fabric should be able to withstand your car’s safety belt. Are the most gorgeous high heels useful, if you can’t walk in them but are on your feet all day?

9- Vary with Accessories.

One outfit can be transformed in many ways by combining it with diverse accessories and also with shoes.

10- Bring along your color palette

Do you have a color palette i.e. a selection of colors that look good on you? hen lake it along with shopping. Colors are best examined in daylight. Otherwise, look for lighting that has cool rather than warm yellow light. Last but not least: Dress well and carefully when you go shopping. This applies also to the unseen items and belts, shoes, and stockings. That way you can have a better overall (mostly fitting) experience.
