Hi everyone,
While I agree with some critics stating that the designers have been very lazy and uncreative over the past 2-3 years; I am looking forward to 2020 as most of the fashion trends that are expected to be seen in 2020 are already available in my closet. I just need some tailoring to make them fit my new size 0-2 (👧).
With that said, the ’70s will be serving as a baseline for most 2020 trends, with some 80’s and 90’s elements. Today I am sharing 15 fashion trends (instead of 10) that I am looking forward to:
- Suits, Suits & more suits. Suits are still going to be in style this year but with more patterned fabrics like houndstooth, plaid & more. Pants suit, skirt suits or short suits. Oversize blazer is still on trend.
- If you loved the Julia Roberts suits in “Pretty Woman” then it’s time to channel the Julia Roberts in you. Over the knee and over-sized short, and fancy bermuda shorts (oversized) paired with mix or match blazer. I also expecting to see the culottes making a come back with some exaggerated proportion as I noticed that they are going big on the fabric. The more fabric the better.
- Talking about lots of fabrics. Balance is created by simple elements like the tank tops (Bra tops, crop tops). Pair your oversize bermuda shorts or culotte with a simple white tank top and you are ready to go. They are also expected to see the classic white tee to be replaced by tank top. Living in the Caribbean, I am so looking forward to this.
- While the tee will take a seat back, the polo shirt is also making a come back reminds me of late 90’s and early 00’s where we were all splurging on those Lacoste, RL, A87 or Vineyards polos.
- Although Pantone has set the tone for classic blue as color of the year, we are also expected to see a lot of neon green, lavender, ultra violet as well as orange and marigold.
- Of course prints will still on trend – so no need to get rid of your last seasons animal prints goodies. Also, polka dots will be taking another level, the bigger the better? Have I said that we are going big this year?
- Double denim (denim or denim or canadian suit) – a classic – is also coming back with more comfort in mind (looser fit) and in all the colors you want. So What’s your favorite color for your denim? Also, high-waisted jeans with wide legs are not going anywhere. The legs are simply becoming larger.
- Fringe, statement ruffles and oversized sleeves. I like a nice puffy sleeves but some of those oversized sleeves shall remain on the runway – just saying…
- Big bag is back- I meant oversized. I had some oversized handbags early 00’s. I have to check to see if they are still around.
- Leather: Colored leather, classic black leather, leather dress, leather skirt, leather pants, leather blazer you name it. I definitely need a replacement for my burgundy jacket.
- Big chain are also making a comeback. I will still rock my layers but I’m here for some classy chains.
- Mini dress: If you like a mini dress then it’s your turn. If you haven’t read my previous post on how to wear a mini dress/skirt without looking trashy for the Holidays. Those rules still apply. You can check that post here if you missed it.
- Waistcoat – Replace your blazer by a waistcoat and their your have it. I believe that us in the Caribbean will definitely enjoy wearing a nice waistcoat set or just a belted one over your jeans.
- Metallic and glitters. Metallic fabrics were big this holiday seasons and it seems that they aren’t going away anytime soon.
- More pleats: pleated dresses, pleated skirts, pleated top, pleated shorts and pants.
