Hi everyone,
Happy Tuesday! How are you today? I hope you are all well. Last year, I shared some tips on how to look expensive on a budget (post available here). Life is a runway of experience; in the hassle of keeping up with the several shows, it can be quite demanding to look your best, acquire a luxurious appearance with the constant financial threads or get the proper directives on how to look well dressed. A lot of us want to look elegant, sophisticated and classy on a budget but we often do not know how to acquire that. I hope this post can provide some quick wins that can help you elevate your look without breaking the bank in your journey to become your ultimate self.
As you are acquiring a level of success, confidence, and self-love, it becomes, more than ever, a necessity to invest more into your physical appearance and the way you look.
A lot of us struggle with the question of “how to look elegant and put together?” Many people, especially young adults, believe that spending huge amount of money on clothing and accessories would automatically make them look elegant. Well, while there’s a level of truthfulness to that, I’d like to believe that money isn’t all that’s needed. People associate money with success; a lot of people believe that to look put together, you have to be rich. But then, over and again, I have met people who aren’t so rich, yet, they have never failed to look expensive. Master the following tips and you will always look elegant, glamorous and stylish.
1- Understand Your Fabrics
There are different kinds of fabrics. And each fabric has a unique type of maintenance, styling and sometimes usage. If you do not know your fabrics, you could go to a fabric store or ask your tailor. Knowing your fabrics gives you an idea about what to buy. Polyester, Nylon, and Rayon – all man-made fiber – won’t hang properly on your body like natural wool or cotton fabrics.
There are times when I change my outfit for an event at the last minute because I suddenly realize that the material reflects a poor taste. Also, place great importance on the color of your fabric. When in doubt go for neutral colors ( black, white, nude, beige, khaki -all shades of brown – olive, red)

2- Tailor your clothes
Wearing outfits that are too big or small, reflect a poorness of taste. If you have a new outfit or design, take them to a tailor and let them get your measurements, and ensure the clothing is shaped to fit you almost perfectly. Fitted clothes are a sign of taste, class and wealth.
3. Quality Over Quantity
You necessarily don’t have to buy so many outfits at once. If you could do them bit-by-bit, then go ahead and purchase. Don’t be lured into buying low-quality outfits. Save up and get the good ones. Also, I think this should be common knowledge, don’t buy clothes because of trends. Trends will come and go after a while and the clothes will become useless. Get timeless clothes and watch your looks project wealth and class.
4- Pay attention to details
The whole idea of how to look put together essentially hinges on how much you prioritize details. Your outfits should be carefully chosen from your clothing fabrics, shoe size, earrings, watch ect. Also, your color combination is of importance. You should ensure that your colors aren’t carelessly picked. Certain colors project maturity. Take out time to study what colors suits you and you’ll be fine.
5- Tasteful Accessories
Accessories are the major ingredients of your outfit. With poor accessories, you stand the risk of looking bland and average. After taking our time to pick your outfits, ensure you get amazing accessories to match them. Your necklace, rings and so on should reflect the wealth you want to reflect. Leather shoes, bags, and purses create an aura of wealth around you. Your bags can’t look cheap if you really want to look rich. You can also wear a stylish scarf. And don’t forget your sunglasses.
Simple Tricks to take your outfit to the next level
But, self- care is also everything, get serious about the following:
- Skin care;
- Makeup: Learn how to do your makeup like a pro (a style coach can help you master a simple yet perfect makeup routine based on your face/eye shape);
- Hair Style;
- Teeth: Fix your teeth;
- Get a signature scent;
- Learn to mix cheap and expensive clothing pieces;
- Strive to achieve something great. It naturally builds your confidence;
- Learn how to put your attributes forward;
- Become more cultured.
- Most importantly Love yourself!
