Ways You Can Stop Irritating Your Own Skin

Hi everyone,

If you have fussy or sensitive skin, it might seem like you always have to walk on eggshells to take extra good care of it. Days that too hot, too cold, too dry, too humid, each of them can have their own effects and sometimes your skin will get irritated or red for seemingly no reason. However, often there is a reason and it’s the actions that we take ourselves. Here, we’re going to look at ways you can stop inadvertently antagonizing your own skin.

Be mindful of what you nourish it with

There are plenty of skincare products that, despite what they advertise, aren’t as good for your skin as you might think. People with sensitive skin need to keep an eye on the ingredients labels of anything that they buy and to be able to recognize a few problematic regulars. If your skincare products contain any fragrance, harsh exfoliants, alcohol, sulfates, essential oils, or chemical sunscreens, you should stop relying on them. There are some ingredients, such as coconut oil, that are naturally anti-aging and hydrating that don’t have the same chemical effect of causing your skin to react and get irritated. Make it a habit that you study your labels before buying any new makeup or skincare products.

 

Don’t shave as much

This might be a bit of an issue for women who like to look and feel smooth. However, the truth is that shaving, waxing, and other temporary hair removal options can all be sources of irritation and inflammation. One of the most common complaints after shaving is that you might experience rashes or dry skin. If your skin is sensitive, this impact can be much more severe. Waxing can also lead to raised bumps and rashes, as well. If you want to make sure that your skin is smooth, then you might want to invest in laser hair removal procedures, instead. It also means you don’t have to worry about buying shaving equipment in the future, too.

 

Mind how you wash yourself

Like a lot of people with sensitive skin, you might find yourself stepping out of a shower only to find that it’s dried out, redder, and likely to start itching or flaking. A lot of this might be down to how you wash in the first place. Rapid heat changes can lead to your skin finding it difficult to retain water. For that reason, you want to make sure that your showers are relatively short, using warm water instead of hot water. Look for gentle soaps that don’t have any fragrance in them, as well, and pat yourself dry when you get out of the shower instead of rubbing yourself with a towel. Don’t forget to apply a good moisturizer for sensitive skin as soon as you can, either.

 

Of course, even with all of the tips above, you can’t ensure that your sensitive skin won’t ever get irritated. You need to still be mindful and give it the kind of care that it needs. With the tips above, you just have fewer risks to worry about.
